Our Year 2 Maths Games

Each game is designed by teachers and aligned to the Year 2 National Curriculum for Mathematics. Children can play as many times as they like — completely free, with no sign-up required.

Number Ninja — Addition & Subtraction to 100

In Year 2, children are expected to add and subtract numbers using concrete objects, pictorial representations, and mentally — including two two-digit numbers. Number Ninja presents increasingly challenging addition and subtraction questions within 100, covering two-digit plus one-digit, two-digit plus tens, and two-digit plus two-digit. Children pop the bubble showing the correct answer, building mental arithmetic fluency that is essential for the KS1 SATs.

  • Skills practised: mental addition and subtraction within 100, place value understanding
  • 10 questions per round with interactive bubble-popping mechanic

Skip Count Sprint — Counting in 2s, 5s & 10s

The Year 2 curriculum requires children to count in steps of 2, 3, and 5 from 0, and in tens from any number. Skip Count Sprint turns this into a race through number sequences. Children see stepping stones with a number pattern and must identify the next number, fill a gap, or count backwards. Three modes — count in 2s, 5s, and 10s — let children focus on the pattern they find trickiest.

  • Skills practised: counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s, recognising number patterns, counting backwards
  • 3 modes with visual stepping-stone number line

Coin Collector — Money Recognition & Counting

Year 2 children must recognise and use symbols for pounds (£) and pence (p) and combine amounts to make a particular value. Coin Collector shows realistic British coins — from 1p to £2 — and asks children to identify their value, count a group of coins, or work out which coins make a given amount. This practical maths skill connects directly to real-world shopping and pocket money, making it one of the most engaging topics for Year 2 children.

  • Skills practised: recognising coins (1p to £2), counting money, making amounts
  • Realistic coin visuals matching British currency

Shape Master — Properties of 2D & 3D Shapes

Building on Year 1's shape recognition, Year 2 children must identify and describe the properties of 2D shapes, including the number of sides and vertices, and 3D shapes, including faces, edges, and vertices. Shape Master covers everything from triangles and hexagons to cubes, cylinders, and triangular prisms. Children answer questions like “How many sides does a pentagon have?” and “How many faces does a cube have?” — building the geometric vocabulary needed for KS2.

  • Skills practised: counting sides, vertices, faces, and edges
  • Covers 2D shapes (triangle to octagon) and 3D shapes (cube, sphere, cylinder, cone, prism)

Quarter Past Quest — Telling the Time

Year 2 children must tell and write the time to five minutes, including quarter past and quarter to the hour. Quarter Past Quest extends Year 1's clock skills by adding quarter past and quarter to alongside o'clock and half past. An analogue clock face shows the time and children select the correct reading. This regular practice is essential because telling the time is a skill that requires repeated exposure to become automatic — and it appears in the KS1 SATs reasoning paper.

  • Skills practised: reading o'clock, half past, quarter past, and quarter to
  • Builds on Year 1 clock skills with harder time readings

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these Year 2 maths games free?

Yes, all five games are completely free to play. There is no sign-up, no subscription, and no hidden costs. Just pick a game and start playing.

What topics do the Year 2 games cover?

The games cover five key Year 2 curriculum areas: addition and subtraction within 100, counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s, recognising and counting British coins, properties of 2D and 3D shapes, and telling time to quarter past and quarter to.

Do the games work on tablets and phones?

Yes. All games are fully responsive and work on desktops, tablets, and mobile phones. No app download is needed — they run directly in your browser.

How do the games help with SATs preparation?

Every game is aligned to the Year 2 National Curriculum objectives tested in the KS1 SATs. Regular practice with these games builds fluency in the key areas assessed: arithmetic, reasoning about shapes, telling the time, and working with money.

What is the difference between Year 1 and Year 2 games?

Year 2 games build on Year 1 skills with harder content. For example, Year 1 covers addition to 20 while Year 2 extends to 100. Year 1 teaches o'clock and half past while Year 2 adds quarter past and quarter to. Year 2 also introduces money recognition and shape properties (sides, vertices, faces, edges).
