Year 1: Count in 2s (Week 1)

5 daily worksheets — Part of Counting

About Year 1 Count in 2s Worksheets

Can your child count in 2s? These free Year 1 counting in 2s worksheets help children master this essential skip-counting skill. Counting in 2s is the first step towards understanding multiplication and is a key part of the Year 1 national curriculum.

Over five daily worksheets, your child will practise counting forwards and backwards in steps of 2. Starting with counting pairs of objects and building up to completing number patterns, these worksheets use visual aids and number lines to make skip counting click. Your child will also explore odd and even numbers along the way.

What's Inside Each Day

1

Day 1

Counting pairs — your child counts groups of 2 objects (shoes, socks, gloves) to see that counting in 2s means adding 2 each time.

2

Day 2

Counting in 2s on a number line — children hop along a number line in jumps of 2, building a visual pattern.

3

Day 3

Completing 2s sequences — your child fills in missing numbers in counting patterns: 2, 4, __, 8, __, 12.

4

Day 4

Counting back in 2s — children learn to count backwards in 2s from a given number.

5

Day 5

Count in 2s challenge — mixed activities including word problems and pattern spotting, bringing all the week's learning together.

Skills Your Child Will Practise

  • Counting forwards in 2s from any even number
  • Counting backwards in 2s
  • Completing number sequences
  • Recognising the pattern in multiples of 2
  • Using number lines for skip counting

Top Tip for Parents

Counting in 2s is brilliant to practise on the go! Count pairs of shoes by the door, pairs of socks from the laundry, or spots on a ladybird picture. Make it physical by jumping and counting — one jump for each number: "2, 4, 6, 8!"
