Year 1: Making Amounts (Week 2)

5 daily worksheets — Part of Money

About Year 1 Making Amounts Worksheets

Can your child make different amounts using coins? These free Year 1 making amounts worksheets help children learn to combine coins to reach a total. Building on coin recognition, this is where your child starts to use money practically — and it's wonderful preparation for real shopping experiences!

This week's five worksheets challenge your child to select and combine coins to make given amounts. They'll start with simple totals using one type of coin before progressing to using mixed coins. Each worksheet includes plenty of visual coin images and practical scenarios that children can relate to.

What's Inside Each Day

1

Day 1

Making amounts with 1p coins — your child counts out 1p coins to make amounts up to 10p, reinforcing counting skills.

2

Day 2

Making amounts with mixed coins — children use 1p, 2p, and 5p coins together to make given amounts.

3

Day 3

Different ways to make the same amount — your child discovers that 10p can be made as 10 x 1p, 5 x 2p, or 2 x 5p.

4

Day 4

Making amounts to 20p — children combine larger coins (10p, 5p, 2p, 1p) to make amounts up to 20p.

5

Day 5

Money word problems — scenarios like "You have a 10p and a 5p coin — how much money do you have?" test understanding.

Top Tip for Parents

Set up a pretend shop at home with price labels on household items. Give your child a selection of real coins and let them 'buy' things by counting out the right amount. This hands-on play is the single most effective way to build money skills.

All our Year 1 Making Amounts worksheets are completely free to download and print. Each worksheet is aligned to the UK national curriculum and includes fluency practice, word problems, and reasoning challenges — everything your child needs for a well-rounded KS1 maths practice session.
